Our Story

It was initially a partnership between former professional distance runners and friendly Atlantic Coast Conference competitors, Scott Dvorak (NCSU) and Eric Hichman (UNC-CH). Both were 2 of the top 3000m Steeplechasers in the ACC and US Olympic Trials Qualifiers. Eric departed the company in 2003, while Scott continued to grow and ultimately expand the business with the opening of it’s 2nd location at the Promenade on Providence Shopping Center in the Ballantyne area of South Charlotte in 2006. In 2009, Donny Forsyth, one of the top Masters triathletes in the country, joined CRC as the first brand partner with his purchase of the Promenade store from Scott. The CRC owners group expanded in 2011 with the addition of Todd Joefreda, who partnered with Scott to open both the Mooresville store, and Northlake location in 2014.

In 2016, Todd departed CRC, and a new brand partner was added. With the purchase of both the Northlake and Mooresville locations, Jamie Davis joined the ownership group. Jamie, an avid triathlete and runner, came to the Charlotte Running Co. after a successful career in finance. That same year, Scott and Donny partnered to open the Riverwalk location in Rock Hill, SC. Nestled right on the banks of the Catawba River, the newest gem in the Charlotte Running Co. fleet sits right on the greenway, and has 5 plus miles of running trails right out the front door!

That same year Harry Chandler, Michigan native, moved to Charlotte to join the Charlotte Running Company team. After years of hard work and aiding in the growth of our stores and culture, Scott Dvorak and Donny Forsyth invited Harry out to dinner at Beef and Bottle, a local Charlotte Restaurant; at that dinner in June of 2022, Harry was offered and accepted an invitation to the ownership group.

Today, the Charlotte Running Company is 5 stores with 4 owners driven to provide the best product and customer service possible!
